Join us on the 8th March – International Women’s Day - for a glass of wine, talk and an amazing film.
Find out about fascinating life stories of Lou Andreas Salomé, Camille Claudel and Mata Hari – three extraordinary women who had the courage to live their own lives at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Discover Lou Andrea Salome and her liaisons with Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud and Maria Rainer Rilke. Explore the seductive dance skills and espionage rumours surrounding Mata Hari. Finally, delve into the fragile beauty of sculptures by Camille Claudel – one of the most gifted and yet most ostracized of all female artists of the 20th century.
The evening will conclude with the breath-taking film “Camille Claudel” starring Isabelle Adjani as Camille Claudel and Gérard Depardieu as Auguste Rodin. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and Best Foreign Language Film, it is a deeply moving story depicting two artists' work, passion, and fears culminating in Camille Claudel’s downfall. She fell victim the very social conventions she scorned with her independent life style. Her socially unconventional behaviour resulted in her eventual incarceration.
It is an evening about passion, talent and influence which goes well beyond the `colourful' label oft attached to the gifted.
