Kwyer practice
improvised group vocalising and singing

with Regan O'Brien
10 weeks

Voices Wanted

Kwyer practice is a ten week course in improvised group vocalising and singing aimed at anyone who wants to sing in a group. Kwyer has been running since January 2009 and has worked with many voices of varying abilities. Kwyer is about learning how to vocalise your imagination in a group situation where you can be supported and offer support to other voices in a safe and nurturing environment. We root our strategy in flocking and swarms in nature, body/voice practice, classical vocal training and vocal release techniques. Think jellyfish and buffalo, chainsaws and lullabies!

We will learn how to place the natural voice in the body and extend its limitations both physically and imaginatively. There is a strong focus on vocal streaming and improvising in response to various external stimuli. We will sing in response to projected visuals, dance, vocal choreographies and memories. This is a fun way to learn about playing the voice and offers an opportunity to those of you who want to be in a choir but feel like you don't have the right kind of voice. In Kwyer, all voices are the right kind of voice.

The Centre for Creative Practices aims to develop, sustain, promote and present new arts and creative practices in Dublin and Ireland through the organisation of artistic events and education.

The current climate might seem to be against us. We dare to believe the opposite. We believe that culture is a fundamental value for every society, that the arts are an indispensable system of reference for personal and collective values, an example of diversity and tolerance and a vital tool to neutralise the stagnation.
