“Lichter”/”The distant lights” by Hans-Christian Schmidt 105min
"Lichter”/”The distant lights by Hans-Christian Schmidt. 14 prizes and 10 nominations at international festivals!!!
“Lichter” – one of the most beautiful, important and touching films made in Germany after the fall of the Wall. This movie reflects on the situation around the border between Poland and Germany. The fate of many single characters creates a picture of life in this region: Some Russians want to cross the border illegal to get into Germany, a company wants to build a new factory, a Polish taxi driver desperately needs money to buy his daughter a communion dress, and so on. |

"Auf der anderen Seite" /"Edge of Heaven" by Fatih Akin - 116min
"Auf der anderen Seite" (Edge of Heaven)- Nejat seems disapproving about his widower father Ali's choice of prostitute Yeter for a live-in girlfriend. But he grows fond of her when he discovers she sends money home to Turkey for her daughter's university studies. Yeter's sudden death distances father and son. Nejat travels to Istanbul to search for Yeter's daughter Ayten. Political activist Ayten has fled the Turkish police and is already in Germany. She is befriended by a young woman, Lotte, who invites rebellious Ayten to stay in her home, a gesture not particularly pleasing to her conservative mother Susanne. When Ayten is arrested and her asylum plea is denied, she is deported and imprisoned in Turkey. Lotte travels to Turkey, where she gets caught up in the seemingly hopeless situation of freeing Ayten. |

The Centre for Creative Practices aims to develop, sustain, promote and present new arts and creative practices in Dublin and Ireland through the organisation of artistic events and education.
The current climate might seem to be against us. We dare to believe the opposite. We believe that culture is a fundamental value for every society, that the arts are an indispensable system of reference for personal and collective values, an example of diversity and tolerance and a vital tool to neutralise the stagnation. |
