Voices

Voices

Voices, a vocal free improvisation trio, comprise vocalists Dorothy Murphy, Sue Rynhart and Tuula Voutilainen.  Exploring energy - past, present and future - Voices will present a site-specific performance inspired by the various spaces available in and outside this beautiful Georgian building.

This trio’s experience draws from classical and early music, jazz, electro-acoustic music, noise, psychedelic rock and theatre.  However, at times the bareness of the three voices, often unamplified, is shocking. The most essential ingredient of their practice is simply inhabiting the here-and-now, weathering the uncertainty, exposure and confusion on the one hand, and excitement, elation and adventure on the other.

Voices have performed in Improvised Music Company’s Made on Monday series in J.J. Smyth’s, and as part of Project Brand New at Project Theatre.

Animated Graphic Notation Concert

Do not miss this unique event - an evening of collaborative music making for all with a diverse mix of jazz, classical, electronic and noise musicians present to lead the music making. The event will use animated graphic notation to encourage this collaborative process, with everyone encouraged to bring an instrument or noise-making device along and join in.

Animated graphic scores consist of moving shapes and symbols, which may be interpreted and performed as sounds. This event developed by Shane Mc Kenna looks to explore the collaborative nature of graphic score performance with a large gathering of professional and amateur musicians creating a unique musical experience through interpretation, listening and performing.

Two animated graphic scores will be projected on opposite walls. An acoustic/pitched instrument ensemble will perform one score with the electronic/noise ensemble performing the other. The scores will be played five times, separately at first and gradually overlapping until they are played simultaneously the fifth time. Between each performance is an opportunity to consult with fellow performers as to how the piece should be successfully performed, building up to the final synchronized performance.

The Centre for Creative Practices aims to develop, sustain, promote and present new arts and creative practices in Dublin and Ireland through the organisation of artistic events and education.

The current climate might seem to be against us. We dare to believe the opposite. We believe that culture is a fundamental value for every society, that the arts are an indispensable system of reference for personal and collective values, an example of diversity and tolerance and a vital tool to neutralise the stagnation.
